Turkey ranked 353rd on TOP500 list with the National High Performance Center Project. Supercomputers are used intensively in climate change projections, economic risk analyses, key industrial sectors related to defense and car manufacturing as well as medical and fundamental research. Efficient use of supercomputers are providing those sectors and enterprises serious advantages in competitiveness.

ITU entered for the first time the TOP500 (www.top500.org) list with HP hardware purchased through a State Planning Organization grant to National Center for High Performance Computing Project. TOP500 Supercomputer list, established in 1993, provides a well respected platform that monitors trends in high performance computer technologies. A list of the most powerful 500 supercomputers as well as the names of the respective institutions where they are deployed is announced twice a year. Systems are ranked according their Linpack performance. List also describes principal features of the systems and their application areas.

ITU ranked 353rd on TOP500 list, the list of the most powerful computers in the world, with the National High Performance Center Project. The supercomputer will be used in nuclear and defense research and earthquake simulations.

 

İSTANBUL - The supercomputer installed in the context of the National High Performance Computing Center Project of ITU can perform 5.2 billion calculations per second. The system has 560 dual-core Intel Xeon 5100 Woodcrest processors and has been integrated by Proline, a Turkish computer company with technological support from HP and Intel, is the first one from Turkey to enter the TOP500 list and is the first hardware of the recently established National Center for High Performance Computing.
